Decorate Your Android Home Screen In Style With These 3 Wallpaper Apps
For Polygon Aficionados: Facets ($0.99)
Facets is the polar opposite of something like the previously-reviewed Wallbase For Android: Instead of an endless feed of wallpapers from all over the place, Facets highlights one artist’s original work and consistent style. The artist is Justin Maller, whose work you can also see on his online portfolio.
While the style is consistent — images are all strikingly polygonal — subject matter varies, ranging from abstract shapes to animals. You can browse Maller’s creations by month, theme (“concept”), or mood. Well worth the asking price, if you enjoy the style. It’s also an innovative way to support an artist.
For Lovers Of Simplicity: FlatWallpapers(Free)
FlatWallpapers is the only app in this roundup that’s free. There’s a lot to be said for using a free wallpaper app, though you may just want to use your browser to pick wallpapers from the endless ocean that’s on offer on the Web. What makes FlatWallpapers worth trying out is what it lacks: A huge mishmash of wallpapers. Instead, you get a fairly narrow collection with one theme: Simplicity.
FlatWallpapers contains no photos or elaborate 3D renders. You get some text wallpapers, some colorful polygons, and the occasional wavy pattern. It’s elegant, uncluttered, easy to use, and free. What’s not to like?
For VSCO Cam Fans: wlpapR ($1.38)
If, like me, you’ve been impressed with VSCO Cam, some people may call you a hipster. Ignore them, you know what’s good. wlpapR is an annoyingly-named wallpaper app that takes the VSCO Cam aesthetic and runs with it, offering a collection of artistically faded wallpapers with a heavy emphasis on the outdoors and clouds.
It’s beautiful, and the wallpaper that I currently have comes from wlpapR.
How Do You Get Wallpapers?
Note that none of these apps will change your wallpaper throughout the day – for that you might want to try out the lovely Freshbacks, or the recently popular Muzei app. The good news is that both wlpapR and FlapWallpapers support Muzei, so you can choose them as wallpaper sources and specify which sets of wallpapers Muzei should switch between.
