6 Websites Where You Can Indulge In Your Love of Retro Gaming

By Dave LeClair
Are next-generation graphics just not something that interests you? Perhaps you prefer something with a little bit of old-school style. Some good ol’ 8- and 16-bit games just scratch the itch for you in a way that the latest first-person shooter just can’t. You aren’t alone, as there are plenty of people out there who prefer their games to be retro. In fact, there are lots of websites on the Internet dedicated to the love of retro gaming. Those websites are exactly what we are looking at today. If you love retro gaming, these websites will be perfect for you!

Retroware TV

Retroware TV, as you can probably guess by the name, is website dedicated mostly to video content related to retro games. It has a staple of regular shows that it puts out, and each one brings somethings different to the table. Personally, my favorite is The Game Chasers, a show we’ve talked about as one of the best gaming YouTube channels. But plenty of other shows are worth checking out such as Pat the NES Punk, The Gaming Historian, 16-bit Gems, The Video Game Years, and so many more. Seriously, if you are a retro game enthusiast, this website has enough content to keep you busy for hours and hours.

On tops of all the video content, Retroware also has some pretty solid articles and columns that are worth a read. If you want to know about the latest news from the retro game scene, they have that and more. Whether you come seeking knowledge or entertainment, this website has you covered.

RacketBoy

This is a website you’ll want to come to when you are in the mood for written retro gaming content. Their articles are among the most in-depth you will find on the world of classic games. They have lists of essential games for almost every console under the sun, lists of hidden gems that you’ve probably never heard of, and so much more.

In addition to their articles, they also have a podcast, a forum filled with other retro game lovers, and a store where you can pick up accessories for your favorite retro game consoles. If there’s a piece of content you want that isn’t on RacketBoy, then it probably doesn’t exist at all.

Read RETRO

Read RETRO is something you don’t see very often, in that it’s actually a physical magazine. It’s also supported by a website, so you can go there and find out the latest in the world of retro games. The website has all kinds of news, reviews, previews, and of course, the ability to sign up for a subscription to the magazine if you should so choose.

If you’re already a subscriber you can use the website to download your digital issues. There is also an active forum that you can use to chat with other fans of both retro and modern video games. It’s rare to see a new magazine launch in today’s digital age, but RETRO seems to be doing a great job of making it work.

Reddit

Is there anything that you can’t find on Reddit? There’s all kinds of Reddit communities that you can use to indulge your self in some classic gaming goodness. To start with /r/Gaming has plenty of content that is directly related to classic game. Personally, one of my favorites is /r/gamecollecting, as it is filled with people who collect classic games.
Another community you should check out is /r/retrogaming. It’s not a huge community, but it does have a fairly active user base and some pretty cool content is submitted to it on a regular basis. If you’re not just looking for content, but you actually want a place to communicate with other retro game fans then Reddit is the place for you.

Pricecharting

This is the website every classic game collector comes to when they want to see the value of a game. It parses eBay, Amazon, and half.com to give you an incredibly accurate feel for how much a particular game is worth. It’s a lot easier to use then skimming eBay for recently sold auctions.

Pricecharting is more than just values. They actually have a blog where they post some very useful and insightful content about the world of retro gaming. It even has an eBay sniper that will make it easier for you to snag those rare games for a good price. If you’re even remotely into retro gaming this is a place you absolutely must have in your bookmarks.

NintendoAge

When most people think about retro gaming, Nintendo is the company that comes to mind first. Most of us grew up playing games on a Nintendo console of some sort, so it only makes sense that we would want to go back and play those games today. This website is dedicated to all things Nintendo, and more specifically, Nintendo classics.

The bread and butter of Nintendo age is the forum. It’s extremely active and filled with hardcore Nintendo fans, so it’s a perfect place to come when you want to chat with people who are into the same thing as you. The forum is moderated very well which helps keep the content on track and interesting.

Conclusion

With these websites you will be able to fulfill your love of retro games whenever you want. Store them in your bookmarks and you will be ready to expand your classic gaming knowledge at any time.
