Going out and having a few drinks with friends can be a great social experience. It’s a chance to unwind, have some laughs, and spend some quality time together. Where should you go when you want to have a night on the town? Or, if you prefer to stay in and relax, which drinks should you make and how do you make them?
Don’t worry about either, because we’ve discovered an application that can do both and so much more called DrinkAdvisor. This great resource is absolutely free and is available for both iOS and Android devices. If you plan on doing anything that involves an alcoholic drink or two, this application has the situation under control, and it does it with a slick user interface that couldn’t be any easier to use.

Set Up

Getting the application up and running is quite easy. As with all mobile apps, you will need to download it from the App Store or Google Play first. From there, you will need to register for an account, as DrinkAdvisor does have some social features for you to take advantage of. You can choose to create an account from scratch, or you can use your Google, Facebook, or Twitter credentials to get going a little faster. The process is quick and painless regardless of which method you choose, so you will be using the app before you know it.

Finding Bars and Clubs

DrinkAdvisor is divided into a few basic sections. The first one, and the one that’s really the core of the app is called “Bars.” In this section, you will find a huge list of 6000 bars (and growing) from 130 of the world’s biggest cities. You can choose to scroll through the huge list, or type the name of a city into the search box. Many countries are included, but of course, if you don’t live in one of the supported cities, you won’t find this particular section of the app to be very useful. Fear not, because the app has plenty of other fantastic features, which we will get to in a bit.

After choosing a city, you will see a massive list of bars and clubs. Clicking on any one will display several useful details, such as opening hours, some interior photos of the bar, as well as ratings, and user reviews. You’ll also be shown a detailed description of the bar, which will help you get a feel for the kind of ambiance to expect if you choose to go there.

Learn About Alcohol

Have you ever taken a look at a drinks menu? Unless you’re an enthusiast, it’s very unlikely that you’ll know the differences between the various drinks. Couple that with the fact that there are appropriate times and places when certain drinks should be consumed, it can be very easy to become overwhelmed by it all. That’s why DrinkAdvisor has the section called “Drinks.” Here, you will find all sorts of information about the various kinds of alcoholic beverages, when to drink them, and all the key information. Want to impress your friends? DrinkAdvisor will make you look like an expert.

Once you find a type of liquor that interests you, tap it and you will be taken to a screen filled with all kinds of interesting facts, its history, and most importantly for uninitiated, how to drink it properly. It even explains how the particular type of liquor is produced, and some of the biggest global brands that make it. DrinkAdvisor isn’t just your bar-hopping companion, it’s truly a well-rounded application.

How To Make Drinks

What if you’re not in the mood to get dressed and go out? What if your friends decide to pop over to your place? As the host, you’ll need to know how to keep your guests entertained. Brush up your skills with the “Cocktails” section — it’s chock full of all kinds of drinks you can make at home, the exact ingredients you will need to make them, the history of the drinks, and simple instructions to whip them up in front of your friends.

Looking for a particular drink? You can sort them by the type of liquor with which they’re made. You can also browse the front page for a selection of popular drinks if you have an open slate and you’re just looking for something fun and different to enjoy with your company.

Social Features

DrinkAdvisor helps you find the best bars and teaches you about the various types of alcoholic drinks from across the world and how to make them, but what about making plans and getting your friends together for a night out? The “Events” section allows you to set a time and invite your friends to your party — all you need to do is pick the place from the large lists of venus and enjoy yourselves.
