How to Find Netflix Movies You Will Love

By  Philip Bates

In case you didn’t know, Netflix is huge. Which makes it impossible to watch even half of its vast library of movies and TV shows. Just keeping track of new Netflix originals is a challenge.15 New Netflix Originals You'll Be Watching in 2017 15 New Netflix Originals You'll Be Watching in 2017Netflix is now producing its own original content. That’s why you need a solid way of finding new movies you’ll love. Which is where MakeUseOf has your back. Looking for recommendations? Need help navigating Netflix? Then this article is for you.

Learn the Secret Codes

OK, so they’re not that secret anymore, but still. These hidden codes are a bit like an episode of Doctor Who in which the HQ of the secret defence organization, UNIT, has a sign outside proudly displaying, “MINISTRY OF DEFENCE — UNIT HEADQUARTERS.” Smooth.
Netflix’s secret codes swept the internet faster than the latest shot of Kim Kardashian wearing not many clothes.
Basically, they offer a way of refining search results on the Netflix website. You might be in the mood for a good crime drama, or have very particular tastes and would prefer dealings with the Devil. :ou simply use this basic URL — http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/ — and then add a number at the end.15 Amazing HBO Shows That Make HBO NOW Worth the Money 15 Amazing HBO Shows That Make HBO NOW Worth the MoneyAn HBO subscription isn't cheap, with HBO NOW priced at $15-per-month. So for Crime Dramas, your address bar should read http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/6889 while Satanic Stories can be found at http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/6998.
There are countless Netflix codes available, and too many for us to list here. However, we have previously listed our favorite Netflix codes, including:
  • Animal Tales: 5507
  • British TV Shows: 52117
  • Korean TV Shows: 67879
  • Music & Concert Documentaries: 90361
  • Werewolf Horror Movies: 75930

FindFlix Extension

Those secret codes are essential for finding all that content you’d otherwise miss, but going through hundreds of webpages can be very tiresome, especially copying those numbers into the URL each time you want to search.
findflix chrome extension
That’s where the FindFlix extension, available on Chrome and on Firefox, comes in.
You download the addon, then whenever you visit Netflix on your PC, it presents a dropdown menu filled with categories to filter just by clicking the [FF] icon to the top-right of your screen. Easy. It’ll also remember your favorites, so if you don’t fancy scrolling through the alphabetized list, there’s no need to. Boasting around 7,500 categories, that’s a godsend!
The extension promises to be free forever, a hit at another installation that hit the headlines and decided to charge Chrome users (but not Firefox users, bizarrely) on a subscription basis. With that in mind, FindFlix promises a lot of value without the fees.

Set Up Different Accounts

Netflix will suggest titles based on your viewing habits, so if you’re addicted to Ant Man, it’ll likely promote its own Marvel TV shows like the wonderful Daredevil and Iron Fist.

But it can only accurately personalize your interface if your viewing experience is solely your own. If you’ve got numerous people all watching different things, those different tastes will result in a confused conglomeration of recommendations. How Netflix Knows Exactly What You Want to Watch How Netflix Knows Exactly What You Want to WatchNetflix's rise to being the world's primary streaming service was no fluke. It was based on a recipe of data and emotion that means the company always knows what you want to watch.READ MORE
Creating separate accounts means you won’t be bugged by suggestions for your children. Meanwhile, your kids won’t learn you’ve watched Fifty Shades of Grey. In fact, it’s probably best if no one learns that.
Just log into Netflix on your computer, and click Your Account > My Profile > Manage Profiles. From there, you can add up to five profiles, and set up parental controls if needs be. Voila — no more SpongeBob SquarePants. Wait, is that a good thing or not?

Rate Movies!

Recommendations work by assessing your profiles, but many of us are too lazy to tamper with them unless Netflix goes out of its way to pester you about it. Annoyingly, you can’t alter your Taste Preferences anymore either.

There’s a very simple way to tell Netflix what you’ve enjoyed and what’s put you to sleep: ratings.
Love a TV show? Give it five stars. Hate a film? One star. Other stars are available. That’s the way it’s been for a while, but the streaming service has found people oddly reticent to leave such a lasting impression (especially strange considering social media, and by extension the internet as a whole, has given us the opportunity to voice our opinions about anything and everything). That’s why Netflix’s star ratings are being replaced by a simple thumbs-up/thumbs-down system. Here's What Happens When You Confront An Internet Troll Face To Face Here's What Happens When You Confront An Internet Troll Face To FaceWhen you're just typing words into a machine, it's easy to forget that there are real people reading those words. This not only helps your recommendations, but also makes sure Netflix focuses on securing the most popular content. After all, Netflix is shedding a lot of content, so we might as well appeal to them to keep the best of the best over, say, The Last Airbender.

What Is My Movie?

This handy website is a way of searching for movies across multiple streaming services. Want to find movies similar to Die Hard? You’re only human. You can just type in “like Die Hard” and you’ll be presented with Die Hard: With a Vengeance, and various other sequels, followed by great selections like Kindergarten Cop! Absolute classics, you’ll no doubt agree.Netflix vs. Hulu vs. Amazon Prime: Which Should You Choose? Netflix vs. Hulu vs. Amazon Prime: Which Should You Choose? It has been years since we've compared heavy-hitting streaming services, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. You can also filter the search, so if you’re likely to enjoy any film starring Scarlett Johansson or Daniel Craig, you can filter the results accordingly. You also get short synopses and Metacritic scores enabling you to judge whether these are the right titles for you. Still, you have to then search Netflix to check your selected film is available to stream.

It’s not perfect. Type in “Marvel movies” and before you reach Guardians of the GalaxyThor: The Dark World, or Avengers: Age of Ultron, you’re presented with Antboy: Revenge of the Red Fury (not even DC, let alone Marvel). But despite these failings it remains a handy tool to help you find quality content.
